Engineering Civil Engineering: Wages, Best Career Option & More

AI Thread Summary
The discussion centers on the interest in civil engineering and its relationship to physics. Key points include the appeal of civil engineering, particularly in building infrastructure like bridges and tunnels, while expressing concerns about the reality of the job, including the potential for mundane tasks such as constructing roads in new estates. There are inquiries about salary expectations and the overall viability of pursuing a career in civil engineering. Additionally, there is a consideration of alternative career paths, particularly in medical physics, and a desire for guidance on the best educational choices moving forward. The importance of selecting subjects that align with these interests, such as physics, chemistry, math, and computer science, is also highlighted as part of the decision-making process for future studies.

Well, I really enjoy physics and I am interested by pretty much all of it. However, I really like the idea of civil engineering, you know, building bridges, tunnels, roads etc. But that's about it in terms of how much I know about the job. What is it really like? What are the wages like, and is it the best thing (realistically) to go into. And is it all the interesting or is the, the possibility of just being stuck building roads on new estates, rather than building bridges like on discovery channel.

I am open to other careers, but i know i want to continue with physics, would medical physics or another option be any better to study, and what other wide range of options is there for me to take on?

Thanks

And I am Thinking to take civil Engineer In Collage!
Is Civil Engineer is worth In Future??

Hello, I graduated from undergrad a few years ago with a Major in Physics and minor in Electrical Engineering. I tried to get experience working on and testing circuits through my professor who studied Neutrinos, however covid caused the opportunity to go away and I graduated with no experience or internships. I have attempted to break into the engineering industry with no success. Right now I am considering going for a Masters in Electrical Engineering and I need advice on if this would be...
I don't know if anyone on here works for any of the well known defense companies of your country, whichever country you are from?? Also, if you choose to work in one, do you think the engineering education provide from your school would adequately prepare you for the job. What do I mean by that? Well if you work at say Lockheed Martin and you work in the latest iteration of a missile or if you work at Pratt & Whitney, they assign you to work in the team helping out with building the jet...
