AI Thread Summary
A college senior in biomedical engineering is working on a senior design project that involves using a CD-ROM drive to read data from specific locations on a CD. The individual seeks to understand the programming aspects of controlling the CD-ROM drive, having already grasped the basic concepts of laser technology and data storage on CDs. Recommendations for resources include visiting bookstores like Borders and Barnes & Noble to find books that reference CD-ROM libraries or functions, which may provide the necessary information on programming and data retrieval from CD-ROMs.

I am college senior in biomedical engineering and am working on a project which will involve the use of a CDROM drive for a senior design project. For the project what i will need to be able to take a CD and be able to tell the drive to point to a specific spot on the cd and read the data. I am in the process of trying to understand CDROM drives and how they work. I understand the concepts of how they use laser scatter and and nano Fab part of a CD but I have no clue on the programing.

What I would like is to know if anyone knows any books, websites or jorunal article which may help me understand how to control where the drive reads and gather the data it reads.

Thanks Matt

Just head over to Borders and Barnes and Noble and browse. Any book should have some reference to cdrom libraries or functions.

Thread 'ChatGPT Examples, Good and Bad'
I've been experimenting with ChatGPT. Some results are good, some very very bad. I think examples can help expose the properties of this AI. Maybe you can post some of your favorite examples and tell us what they reveal about the properties of this AI. (I had problems with copy/paste of text and formatting, so I'm posting my examples as screen shots. That is a promising start. But then I provided values V=1, R1=1, R2=2, R3=3 and asked for the value of I. At first, it said...
Sorry if 'Profile Badge' is not the correct term. I have an MS 365 subscription and I've noticed on my Word documents the small circle with my initials in it is sometimes different in colour document to document (it's the circle at the top right of the doc, that, when you hover over it it tells you you're signed in; if you click on it you get a bit more info). Last night I had four docs with a red circle, one with blue. When I closed the blue and opened it again it was red. Today I have 3...
