Cost Efficiency Study Comparation of PMSM and BLDC Motor

AI Thread Summary
To conduct a cost efficiency study comparing PMSM and BLDC motors, it's essential to first define the specific application and requirements for the motors. Understanding the operational needs will help clarify the differences between PMSM and BLDC solutions. Utilizing simulation software can facilitate the comparison of output parameters and material usage, making it accessible even for beginners. Resources such as textbooks and instructional videos can provide foundational knowledge on PMSM machines. A well-defined question and thorough analysis will lead to more meaningful insights in the study.

I want to do a study comparation of PMSM and BLDC Motor. I want to analyze the cost efficiency if BLDC were subtitute to PMSM. Where should i start? what kind of data that i need?

This sounds kind of meaningless without a careful definition of the application. Each of these motors is the best choice for something, yet they are not the same. I doubt you'll get much guidance here without a more detailed description of the constraints in your analysis.

So, the first step is to ask a good question, not of us, but for yourself. What do you need the motor to do? Why? What would a PMSM solution be? What would a BLDC solution look like? How do they compare?

Due to the application, you can use different excitation model and magnet shapes to have BLDC or PMSM ( sinusoidal or trapezoidal back EMF)
I had a similar project and I used a simulation software to compare the output parameters and material usage. It was easy to use for me as an amateur. You may find it useful to test EMWorks studio or [Redacted by the Mentors]. No need to have deep knowledge in finite element to use them.

There are some useful textbooks about PMSM machines, I used Dr.Hendershot book and videos to learn the basics of these machines.

I used to be an HVAC technician. One time I had a service call in which there was no power to the thermostat. The thermostat did not have power because the fuse in the air handler was blown. The fuse in the air handler was blown because there was a low voltage short. The rubber coating on one of the thermostat wires was chewed off by a rodent. The exposed metal in the thermostat wire was touching the metal cabinet of the air handler. This was a low voltage short. This low voltage...
Thread 'How Does Jaguar's 1980s V12 Dual Coil Ignition System Enhance Spark Strength?'
I have come across a dual coil ignition system as used by Jaguar on their V12 in the 1980's. It uses two ignition coils with their primary windings wired in parallel. The primary coil has its secondary winding wired to the distributor and then to the spark plugs as is standard practice. However, the auxiliary coil has it secondary winding output sealed off. The purpose of the system was to provide a stronger spark to the plugs, always a difficult task with the very short dwell time of a...
I am not an electrical engineering student, but a lowly apprentice electrician. I learn both on the job and also take classes for my apprenticeship. I recently wired my first transformer and I understand that the neutral and ground are bonded together in the transformer or in the service. What I don't understand is, if the neutral is a current carrying conductor, which is then bonded to the ground conductor, why does current only flow back to its source and not on the ground path...
