AI Thread Summary
Creating a fast-melting plasma cutter requires high voltages, control mechanisms, and compressed air, making it a complex project. The discussion emphasizes that converting a welder for this purpose is not feasible. For safety and practicality, purchasing a plasma cutter is recommended unless one has advanced electrical engineering knowledge. Additionally, there is curiosity about whether plasma is attracted to magnets, hinting at a potential project involving magnetic fields. Overall, the project is ambitious and may pose significant challenges for a science project.

I've been wanting to make a plasma cutter that can melt metal fairly fast. I was just wondering how to! Also I was wondering if plasma is attracted to magnets, because I want to make a sort of force field but won't go into details.

I want to do this for a science project and info would help!

Thanks Mat1101

You need big dangerous voltages, ways to control these voltages, compressed air and the torch/leads. You can't convert a welder to one either.

Unless you're going to turn into an electrical engineer I would leave this one alone and just buy one.

Hi all, I have a question. So from the derivation of the Isentropic process relationship PV^gamma = constant, there is a step dW = PdV, which can only be said for quasi-equilibrium (or reversible) processes. As such I believe PV^gamma = constant (and the family of equations) should not be applicable to just adiabatic processes? Ie, it should be applicable only for adiabatic + reversible = isentropic processes? However, I've seen couple of online notes/books, and...
Thread 'How can I find the cleanout for my building drain?'
I am a long distance truck driver, but I recently completed a plumbing program with Stratford Career Institute. In the chapter of my textbook Repairing DWV Systems, the author says that if there is a clog in the building drain, one can clear out the clog by using a snake augur or maybe some other type of tool into the cleanout for the building drain. The author said that the cleanout for the building drain is usually near the stack. I live in a duplex townhouse. Just out of curiosity, I...
