Did Robben's Performance Outshine Team Netherlands' Weaknesses?

AI Thread Summary
Holland secured a 1-0 victory, with Robben delivering a standout performance that was nearly a one-man show. However, the Dutch defense showed vulnerability at times, and Nistelrooy was not as sharp as expected. A notable moment was Van Persie's free kick that nearly scored. The match was significant as it featured three countries—Holland, Serbia, and Montenegro—following Montenegro's recent independence. Only goalkeeper Jevric represented Montenegro on the Serbian-Montenegrin team. Despite the win, concerns were raised about the team's overall performance, with a call for improved teamwork and less individual arrogance among players, especially given the tough competition ahead from teams like Argentina and the Ivory Coast.

Holland won it 1-0. Robben was terrific. It was almost a one man show. But, the dutch defence looked weak at times and Nistelrooy wasn't the usual sharp striker.

is there any montenegrin player in the S&M team?

I liked the free kick by Van Persie that grazed the post of the S&M goal

Hehe, this was probably the first time three countries played in the same World Cup match...Montenegro having declared it's independence from Serbia a few days ago!

Has Serbia recognized Montenegro as being independent yet though?

I believe only the goalkeeper, Jevric, is from Montenegro.

Whohoo! Three points, we really need those considering it is a tough pool  Argentina and the Ivory Coast will be hard to beat.

Robben is an incredible player. Didn't see much from the rest of the team though.

That was because they were all hiding in the shadow

Ruud Van Nistelrooy remained inconspicuous in yesterday's match :frown:. The match started off well but slowed down later...

As per usual.. NL always have a great team on paper, but since the total football days can't perform as a team...

Hope they do better this time round... (Less arrogance from the core players and more teamwork)
