Difference between quartz, fused silica and Borofloat glass?

AI Thread Summary
Quartz, fused silica, and Borofloat glass are distinct materials with different properties and applications. Quartz is a natural mineral, while fused silica is a synthetic form created by melting silica, offering higher purity and thermal resistance. Borofloat glass, on the other hand, is a borosilicate glass known for its low thermal expansion and high chemical resistance, making it suitable for laboratory use. The discussion highlights the need for clarity on these differences, as many may confuse quartz and fused silica. Understanding these distinctions is crucial for selecting the appropriate material for specific applications.

I am looking over the supplies on University Wafer until I notice the following:
link: https://order.universitywafer.com/default.aspx?cat=Borofloat 33 Glass&diam=100mm

They sell quartz, fused silica and Borofloat glass as different products. I thought quartz and fused silica are the same? Is there anyone that can in details explain the difference between three products?
