AI Thread Summary
The discussion revolves around seeking recommendations for comprehensive books on Quantum Mechanics and Classical Mechanics that provide a solid theoretical foundation. The user expresses a desire for resources that cover the subject from its basics, similar to how "University Physics" addresses general physics. They mention "Schaum's Outline" as a useful resource but find it lacking in depth. Suggestions include "Cohen-Tannoudji QM 1+2" for Quantum Mechanics. There is also a brief comment suggesting that the historical context of Quantum Mechanics may not be as crucial for understanding the concepts. Overall, the focus is on finding in-depth, foundational texts in both Quantum and Classical Mechanics.

Good introduction. You shouldn't care too much about the history of QM though IMHO.

Hi, I have notice that Ashcroft, Mermin and Wei worked at a revised edition of the original solid state physics book (here). The book, however, seems to be never available. I have also read that the reason is related to some disputes related to copyright. Do you have any further information about it? Did you have the opportunity to get your hands on this revised edition? I am really curious about it, also considering that I am planning to buy the book in the near future... Thanks!
This is part 2 of my thread Collection of Free Online Math Books and Lecture Notes Here, we will consider physics and mathematical methods for physics resources. Now, this is a work in progress.
