No beard (too much American Indian in both sides of the family) but I've had a mustache for all the time that I have been with my wife. I shaved one night and returned to our living room/bedroom in our attic apartment, and she shrieked and said "grow it out and don't ever do that again!" I've had a mustache ever since.

She doesn't want me to grow a goatee because my facial hair tends to be white. I have gray temples and she likes that, since I'm bearing down quickly on 59 years, and still have mostly brown/black hair.

Gray temples... you lucky dog. Women really seem to love that... I just have random gray on the FRONT... not quite a "shock:, but not "going gray"... it's been years like that!

Don't get me wrong, it's bad, but it's a little odd, but I've always wanted a mane of silver hair, or those excellent steely temples. Then again, you've worked harder to earn them old man.

btw... and I say this as your junior... when did 5* become "old"? The way you talk about yourself, it's hard to remember you're not pushing 70, and only because of self-deprication. Give yourself a break!

I'm not all that old, but have some health issues, and won't out-last my wife. My father is 85 and he walks several miles per day, and he has a girlfriend who walks with him.

There is more truth in that than you knew.

About 10 or 15 years ago there was a major crime committed in Birmingham (UK, not Alabama!) and witnesses reported one of the criminals "looked like the lead guitarist of ZZ Top".

After arresting a suspect, the police issued a general appeal for ZZ Top look-alikes to take part in an indentity parade. Several people told me I ought to do my public duty and volunteer. (But I figured that real ZZ Top look alikes don't know what "public duty" means, so I didn't).

That's pretty impressive! I'm definitely in favor of a beard-off.

I'm also interested to see if either of you have any progress shots. You know, like snapshots of various stages during the growth process.

I think it helps that he isn't standing there with his hip cocked like a women, in a bannan-hammock (Speedo, crotch emphasizing bathing suit).

'Wolverine' just looks like a really ripped (low body fat, clearly defined musculature) guy, not some kind of freak posing like a girl.

Yeah, I'd have to agree there... a waxed chest looks... odd. On the other hand you have people of asian lineage with little or no chest hair, but... still manage to look manly. I think people look best the way they were born, not after a lot of waxing and junk.

YEP! women also like men with some chest hair or at least that is what i think i guess that can start a very good thread as well.

I'd definitely be interested to hear what the female members think about this... I would agree with you, but I guess we're not the target audience!

Ladies? Chest hair... yea, or nay?

I think it depends on the country as well i think women from your country will probably prefer waxed chest?

In my experience, no, but I'm just one guy... so...?

I'm not overly hairy, but I have a decent amount of chest-hair... it's never been an issue, but on the other hand, it's never been the main draw either. I'm not sure what women prefer, but I don't have any friends who wax except one who's a swimmer, and another who (as mentioned earlier) does a lot of bodybuilding.

I guess... Once again I think we'd have to ask the ladies.

It's probably a matter of fashion for the most part, and the tendency of a region. We definitely need a female view or we lost lambs will never find home again.

My wife made me shave off my beard when it started going grey faster than the rest of my hair. She said that it made her look old by association. My hair is also shorter now.

I've gone without shaving for about two weeks now, and my intent is to continue not shaving until the end of the next term, then shave right before teaching my final lab section, just to freak out the students. (Also, I figure a beard will deter students from coming to my office hours)

  • #80

I also have done some teaching..., beard or no beard i think the personalty of the teacher really has a direct effect on the minds of the students specially the females which in my case must never have been positive:frown:

Evo... That's Hugh Jackman preparing to play 'Wolverine'... that's the character's facial hair style, not his.

Speedo boy is... Baywatch... bad singing... eating burgers off the floor while blind drunk...

...That's right Evo it's... David "I can't feel my feet" Hasselhoff!

Or... you're not the target audience for Marvel comics, and I was, and therefore always will be to some extent? I don't keep up, but Wolverine is a testosterone dream of young boys everywhere... having been such a young boy, I freely admit to having loved comic books.

Still... the Wolverine movie was pretty good...

As for Hasselhoff... you think it says something good about me that I recognize him, and you don't? You're the clear winner in this game of life Evo!

Lord, I haven't watched that in ages! Dexter's Lab was a favorite of a girlfriend years ago when it was first on... good memories, and a surprisingly smart and funny cartoon.
