Electronic Door Control Design Ideas

Click For Summary
SUMMARY

The discussion centers on designing an electronic door control system for a final semester project in control systems. The proposed design involves a miniature door frame operated by momentary pushbuttons. Participants suggest using a worm drive and motor for slower operations or exploring piston devices for actuation. Insights include examining existing automatic doors for inspiration.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of control systems principles
  • Familiarity with electronic actuation devices
  • Knowledge of motor types, specifically worm drives
  • Basic electronics for implementing pushbutton controls
NEXT STEPS
  • Research worm drive motor specifications and applications
  • Explore different types of electronic actuators, including piston devices
  • Study circuit design for integrating momentary pushbuttons
  • Investigate existing automatic door mechanisms for design inspiration
USEFUL FOR

This discussion is beneficial for control systems students, hobbyists in robotics, and engineers interested in electronic actuation and automation design.

Hi guys, I'm new to this forum, I'm in my final semester studying control systems and need to design something for my project class.I was thinking of building a miniature door frame with a door that opens and closes electronically while controlled by momentary on and off pushbuttons. But what kinda of device can I use to electronically open/close the door?

Some kind of piston device?

Any ideas are appreciated! :)

Welcome to the PF.

Look at automatic doors at hospitals and even the supermarket. What do they look like they are using?

If speed is not a big issue, you can use a worm drive and motor.
