AI Thread Summary
The discussion centers on the theme of apocalyptic literature and the exploration of societal collapse. Participants suggest various books that delve into these topics, including "Guns, Germs, and Steel" and "Collapse" by Jared Diamond, which analyze the factors leading to the rise and fall of civilizations. Richard Lynn's "Eugenics: a Reassessment" and Raymond B. Cattell's "A New Morality from Science: Beyondism" are also mentioned for their insights into societal evolution. However, there is a clarification that "Apocalypse Now" and "Heart of Darkness" are not true apocalyptic narratives but rather focus on the psychological impacts of war and madness.

The end of the world, armageddon, apocalypse, whatever you call it.

What are some books I can get which detail these possibilities, and the possibilities and probabilities of events occurring?

"Apocalypse Now," "The Heart of Darkness," for a broader read about how societies rise and fall try something like "Guns Germs and Steel" by Jared Diamond or his book "Collapse."

Richard Lynn's Eugenics: a Reassessment. (2001)

Raymond B Cattell's A New Morality from Science: Beyondism. (1972)

Heart of Darkness and Apocalypse Now aren't actually about apocalyptic scenarios. They're just war stories where the commander goes insane and needs to be taken out.
