Exobiology - E.T. Mating, Would They Enjoy It?

AI Thread Summary
The discussion centers on the hypothetical enjoyment of reproduction among intelligent extraterrestrial beings if their reproductive method involved mating. It acknowledges the uncertainty surrounding the existence of extraterrestrial life and suggests that, if such beings do exist, their reproductive desires might not differ significantly from those of Earth species. Some Earth animals exhibit enjoyment in mating, while others engage in reproduction driven by biological triggers like oestrus. The conversation highlights the diverse evolutionary strategies for reproduction and the possibility that extraterrestrial evolution could have developed unique methods beyond what is observed on Earth.

Yes, this is a very weird question but I would like to know what you think, If their way of reproducing was by mating, do you think intelligent creatures might "enjoy" reproducing? :bugeye:

Thanks!

First, we don't know if any ET's exist. I would assume if there were, their desire to procreat would be no different than any other species.

Some other species here on Earth seem to enjoy mating, but some go into oestrus (heat) and do it more or less automatically based on sensory triggers. Nature has various ways to encourage reproduction, and we cn't be sure evolution on Earth has explored all of them.

The study provides critical new insights into the African Humid Period, a time between 14,500 and 5,000 years ago when the Sahara desert was a green savanna, rich in water bodies that facilitated human habitation and the spread of pastoralism. Later aridification turned this region into the world's largest desert. Due to the extreme aridity of the region today, DNA preservation is poor, making this pioneering ancient DNA study all the more significant. Genomic analyses reveal that the...
