Discussion Overview

The discussion centers around the hypothetical scenario of an alien teleporting to Earth and whether it would feel the effects of Earth's rotation upon arrival. The scope includes speculative reasoning about teleportation and its implications on perception of motion.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory, Conceptual clarification, Debate/contested

Main Points Raised

  • One participant questions whether a teleported being would feel the Earth's rotation, suggesting it might be disturbed by the fast rotation.
  • Another participant references popular culture examples of teleportation, such as Star Trek and Portal, to frame the discussion.
  • Some participants argue that the nature of the teleporter is crucial to answering the question, noting the absence of a working teleporter and the uncertainty surrounding its mechanics.
  • There is a suggestion to post the question in a different sub-forum focused on science fiction, indicating that the topic may be more suitable for speculative discussion rather than scientific inquiry.
  • One participant asserts that the question cannot be answered and suggests closing the thread, indicating a belief that it is not a suitable topic for discussion.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants express differing views on the suitability of the question for discussion. While some engage with the hypothetical scenario, others believe it cannot be adequately addressed, leading to an unresolved debate about the topic's validity.

Contextual Notes

The discussion is limited by the lack of a defined mechanism for teleportation and the speculative nature of the scenario, which relies on assumptions about physics that are not established.

If someone from the outer space suddenly teleport to the Earth , will it feel the rotation of the earth? will it be disturbed by the fast rotating earth.

Like in Star Trek, or like in Portal?

It depends on how your teleporter works. Since we don't have a working teleporter or any idea how to build one, we have no idea how it would work. So your question cannot be answered.

Post this same question on the "Science Fiction and Fantasy" sub-forum, and you may get comments as to how science fiction might handle such a quandary if teleportation were an actual thing.

That wouldn't be suitable for that forum or for the writer's forum, unless they lied. This can't be answered and is not a suitable topic, so thread closed.
