Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around finding a specific shaded pole motor (9 WO Class B) manufactured by Electric Motors & Specs, with specifications including 115 Volts, 60 HZ, and 1550 RPM. Participants explore potential replacements and share experiences related to similar motors, focusing on the application in a seafood case at a supermarket.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory
  • Technical explanation
  • Debate/contested

Main Points Raised

  • One participant notes that the motor in question is a rare 4-pole shaded pole motor, typically found as 2-pole 3100 RPM motors, and questions the original motor's application and failure.
  • Another participant identifies the motor's use in a seafood case but expresses uncertainty about the failure and seeks advice on a potential replacement motor found online.
  • A participant suggests that if both motors are rated at 9 watts, the replacement could be acceptable, but raises concerns about the amperage difference and emphasizes the need for proper air cooling.
  • There is confusion expressed by the original poster regarding the significance of the amperage ratings and whether the suggested replacement is appropriate.
  • Repeated inquiries about the cause of the original motor's failure indicate a lack of clarity on the issue.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants do not reach a consensus on whether the replacement motor is suitable, as there are differing opinions on the implications of the amperage differences and the original motor's specifications.

Contextual Notes

There is uncertainty regarding the implications of the amperage ratings and the specific requirements for the replacement motor, as well as the original motor's failure mode.

Hello,

I'm looking for a shaded pole motor manufactured by Electric Motors & Specs.

9 WO
Class B
115 Volts
60 HZ

This is a very rare 4-pole shaded pole motor. Usually they are 2-pole 3100 RPM. I once had a phonograph turntable that ran off a 4-pole motor like this. The only thing that can go wrong with these is the motor coil. What was yours used for and what happened to it?

If both motors are 9 watts, the replacement is ok. Note that 0.53 amps at 115 volts is 61 volt-amps, which is a lot more than the rated 9 watts. Make sure it has proper air cooling. If you need to reverse this motor, just take it apart and reassemble with the armature pointed in the opposite direction. Yours is .6 amps, or was .6 amps?

I have no idea?? My broken motor says .6amps and the one in the link says .53amps. I don't know what any of these numbers mean.. is it ok to replace it with the one in the link?

Why is your motor broken? Bob S

I don't know what happened to it... I don't plan to fix it or anything. I'd like to replace it, but having difficulty finding the right one.
