Homework Statement

Find the shear stress alone the cylindrical area of the plate, and the average shear stress in the bolt head along the cylindrical area.

the plate is 30 mm thick

bolt head is 8 mm thick

bolt head diameter is 18mm

bolt shank diameter is 7 mm

shank has 8 kn along it

Homework Equations

Ultimate Shear Stress Equation: [/B]T(u) = F/A

Area of a Circle: A = (pi*d^2)/4

The Attempt at a Solution

For the plate, would i plug 8 kN into "F" variable, and multiply the area of the bolt head by the thickness of the plate??

What is the annular area of the shank? What is the axial force acting on this area? What is the normal stress on the shank?

Chet
thanks for the reply chet however i have already solved this problem. The only thing needed was a clear head. Once again thanks for the response it is appreciated.
