AI Thread Summary
The discussion centers on finding the appropriate forum category for posting questions related to photonics. The user expresses difficulty in categorizing their inquiries, as photonics encompasses both atmospheric optics and quantum mechanics. They suggest that questions about photons, being related to quantum field theory (QFT), should be posted in the Quantum Physics forum. The conversation highlights the challenge of categorizing interdisciplinary topics like photonics. Ultimately, the recommendation is to utilize the Quantum Physics forum for such inquiries.

Hi,

I'm new to this site and (forgive my lazy ass) too impatient to browse this expanse of forums to answer the following question myself:

in which category should I post questions about photonics?

It's a bit hard to see for myself, as my question involve totally different things: atmospheric optics seem to situate itself best in the 'Earth' forum, whereas questions about photons specifically are more like quantum mechanics. However, photonics is both, and it's hard to reduce it to one of its associated fields.

Since photons are accounted for by the QFT,post them in the Quantum Physics forum.

After my surgery this year, gas remained in my eye for a while. The light air bubbles appeared to sink to the bottom, and I realized that the brain was processing the information to invert the up/down/left/right image transferred to the retina. I have a question about optics and ophthalmology. Does the inversion of the image transferred to the retina depend on the position of the intraocular focal point of the lens of the eye? For example, in people with farsightedness, the focal point is...
