Fluid Dynamics? Does it have to be dull?

AI Thread Summary
The discussion centers around the perception of a recommended fluid dynamics textbook, which is considered dull and unengaging due to its formulaic approach. The original poster, strong in mathematics, seeks alternative texts that present fluid dynamics in a more interesting and applied manner. While some participants argue that labeling the subject as dull based on one textbook is misguided, they acknowledge the challenge of finding a text that effectively conveys the excitement of fluid dynamics. The consensus is that while lectures may be engaging, the textbook fails to capture the subject's intriguing aspects, prompting a search for better resources.

I am finding the recommended textbook for fluid dynamics really dull. It's slowly going from one formula to another with nothing interesting or any attempt at all to keep you awake...

I'm strong with regard to maths, so are there any books that might make the subject more interesting?
Even an applied textbook, anything that is more than a list of formulas.

'Dull' is in the eye of the beholder. Given the number of books devoted to the subject of fluid/continuum mechanics, proclaiming the entire subject 'dull' based on a single text to be a reflection on you, rather than the subject.

He didn't call the entire subject dull, he said the text he was using was dull. There are many very interesting problems in fluid dynamics but there doesn't seem to be a text that reflects that. Unless someone out there knows better??

Lol! Definitely didn't expect that to come across as "Fluid Dynamics is dull"

Our lectures aren't dull, the text just is. I suppose I'll grab something else from the library and hope for the best haha.
