AI Thread Summary
The discussion centers on the search for a free digital copy of "The Large Scale Structure of Space-time" by Stephen Hawking and George Ellis. It emphasizes that any free online copies are likely pirated and violate copyright laws, which Physics Forums does not support. The thread is closed, but members are encouraged to privately message a mentor if they find a properly licensed free copy, which could lead to the thread being reopened for sharing the link.

Where can I find a free digital copy of The Large Scale Structure of Space-time by Hawking and Ellis?

Unless the copyright holders (probably Hawking and Ellis) have licensed a copy for free distribution, any free online copy you find has been pirated in violation of international law and the laws of just about every country This is not something that Physics Forums will encourage or even tolerate, so this thread is closed.

If someone is aware of a properly licensed free copy, PM any mentor and we can reopen the thread to allow the link to be posted.

Hi, I have notice that Ashcroft, Mermin and Wei worked at a revised edition of the original solid state physics book (here). The book, however, seems to be never available. I have also read that the reason is related to some disputes related to copyright. Do you have any further information about it? Did you have the opportunity to get your hands on this revised edition? I am really curious about it, also considering that I am planning to buy the book in the near future... Thanks!
I’ve heard that in some countries (for example, Argentina), the curriculum is structured differently from the typical American program. In the U.S., students usually take a general physics course first, then move on to a textbook like Griffiths, and only encounter Jackson at the graduate level. In contrast, in those countries students go through a general physics course (such as Resnick-Halliday) and then proceed directly to Jackson. If the slower, more gradual approach is considered...
