You need to download and install the Java Development Kit (Standard 6.0), whatever that's called these days.

And then download the Eclipse IDE. There is a tutorial on the site for making your first Java program in Eclipse.

I had a Microsoft Technical interview this past Friday, the question I was asked was this : How do you find the middle value for a dataset that is too big to fit in RAM?
