AI Thread Summary
Global dimming refers to the phenomenon where human-made pollutants, such as dust, enhance cloud reflectivity, acting as "super mirrors" that reduce Earth's temperature. This concept appears to contradict global warming, which has been increasing Earth's average temperature by approximately 0.8 degrees Celsius every 50 years. Research indicates that a 15% decrease in global dimming could significantly raise temperatures, suggesting that eliminating these pollutants could lead to a rapid increase in warming rates. The implications of global dimming are critical in understanding climate dynamics and the potential effects of pollution on global temperatures.

I was watching NOVA the other day and it had a show on GLobal Dimming.
The idea that human made dust like pollutants would make clouds into super mirrors which would make temperature go down. Yet this contradicts Global Warming which raises Earth's average temperature by .8every 50 years or something.
Now it proved that G.Dimming had a strong effect by showing that 15% decrease in G.Dimming would boost temperatures (6*). So if you removed all of this G.D you would get a really high Warming Rate.
What are your opinions?

Thread 'The Secrets of Prof. Verschure's Rosetta Stones'
(Edit: since the thread title was changed, this first sentence is too cryptic: the original title referred to a Tool song....) Besides being a favorite song by a favorite band, the thread title is a straightforward play on words. This summer, as a present to myself for being promoted, I purchased a collection of thin sections that I believe comprise the research materials of Prof. Rob Verschure, who at the time was faculty in the Geological Institute in Amsterdam. What changed this...
These last days, there is a seemingly endless cluster of rather powerful earthquakes close to the islands of Santorini, Amorgos, Anafi, and Ios. Remember, this is a highly volcanically active region, Santorini especially being famous for the supervolcanic eruption which is conjectured to have led to the decline of the Minoan civilization: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minoan_eruption To grasp the scale of what is happening, between the 26th of January and the 9th of February, 12000...
