Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around recommendations for circuit simulator software that operates on Windows. Participants explore various options suitable for different types of circuit simulations, including analog, digital, and mixed circuits.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory, Technical explanation, Debate/contested

Main Points Raised

  • Some participants suggest Qucs as a potential circuit simulator.
  • Others mention MultiSim, noting that it offers a trial version, and also recommend Eagle, although they indicate it has a learning curve.
  • A participant expresses a preference for PSpice, highlighting that the student version is free and effective for circuit response simulation.
  • There is a suggestion that the choice of simulator depends on the type of circuit, with SPICE being favored for analog circuits. Another participant mentions EDA tools as open-source options and lists Logisim and klogic as good digital circuit simulators.
  • One participant recommends Ngspice for mixed circuit simulations, combining both digital and analog elements.
  • Another suggestion is made for LTSpice as an additional option to consider.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants present multiple competing views on the best circuit simulator software, with no consensus reached on a single preferred option.

Contextual Notes

Participants express varying preferences based on the type of circuit being simulated, indicating that the effectiveness of the software may depend on specific needs and contexts.

Who May Find This Useful

Individuals seeking circuit simulation software for educational purposes, hobbyist projects, or professional use in electronics and engineering fields may find this discussion relevant.

does anyone know of a good circuit simulator software that runs on windows?

Multi-sim the very least you can get without paying is a trial, also eagle is fairly decent just takes some getting used too

I like PSpice, the student version is free. The circuit response simulator works very well.

It depends what kind of circuit you want to simulate.SPICE is the best for analog circuits. I also like EDA tool, you can find it for free online ( it's open source). There are a lot of good digital cicuit simulators out there. Eg, Logisim (free), klogic etc. There are also some more specific simulators like Ngspice for mixed circuit ( digital+analog).

You may also want to give LTSpice a try.
