Hangin' at Cat Bar: A Hilarious Place for Cats to Get Wasted!

AI Thread Summary
The discussion centers around a humorous setup where a wicker basket filled with catnip toys serves as a "bar" for cats. The cats engage with the basket by sticking their heads in and rubbing against the toys, leading to a state of intoxication before they pass out. This behavior is described as amusing, as the cats do not play with the toys but treat the basket as a place to get "wasted" and then leave. The effects of multiple toys in the basket are noted to be more potent than a single toy. Participants share anecdotes about their own cats, including one that shows no interest in catnip and another that playfully attacks its owner. The conversation highlights the quirky and entertaining behaviors of cats in relation to catnip and their interactions with humans.

We have a bar for the cats. They like to go hang out at the bar, stare at each other, get wasted, and then go sleep it off. It is absolutely hilarious!

The bar is a wicker basket filled with catnip toys and sitting on the woodstove pedestal. It was just a place to keep the toys, but the cats have taken to walking over, sticking their head in the basket and rubbing their face all around until they are torched, and then passing out. Apparently, with so many toys in the basket the effects are significantly amplified as compared to a single toy. But what is even funnier is how they treat it like a bar. They don't play with the toys or otherwise hang out there. They just visit the bar to get wasted, and then leave.

You could at least evidence this slur against the normally substance abuse
free kitty population, with pictures:biggrin:

sounds like a good Saturday night to me!

Uh, I know what happened. You started with a little catnip mouse, then a catnip ball that actually released pure catnip when it was batted around. Now they have a "bar" where they can just go and get wasted, no sham about "playing" with the toys.. I hope none of these cats are underage.

Set up a web cam!

Over the years we have accumulated a couple of dozen catnip toys. If you give them a good twisting and smashing, it seems that the catnip is still good. And, actually, two are only teenagers. But that's okay; they are very mature for their age.

It's hard to find cat toys that don't have catnip in them! Ember still seems oblivious to the lure of catnip though. I'll put a little on her scratching mat every once in a while to see what happens, and the result is pretty much nothing. She couldn't care less. She's a good girl, not like those rowdy bar hoppers of yours! :approve: (Actually, she's just 4 months old, so might still be too young to appreciate it.)[/size]

Teenagers do make very good cat toys, as Zotchie can attest.

But I'm not sure twisting and smashing them helps much: the demon cat prefers to simply latch into their arms when they least expect it and start gnawing away. They dart about and shriek most amusingly when she does that.

Of course, she does it to adults, too, but those can get a little more surly about the matter. Adults have been known to not only throw her across the room (which she seems to enjoy), but to clip her claws (a fate apparently worse than death, based on her caterwauling).

(My comment upon being asked if I would take the cat with me when I moved from IA to NY after six years with the little vampire: "She's coming with me of course: there's no way in hell I'm letting her win now.")

 Sounds just like Ember! She wraps her arms ( front legs) around me, sinks her teeth in, and rabbit kicks with her hind legs, as if I'm the one keeping her from running away. And, yeah, if I give her a little tumble, she comes back for more. Though, as much as she protests the claw clipping, it sure doesn't keep her away for very long! (She doesn't use her claws at all though except as an aid to climbing, so that's the least of my problems.) She also protests being held...unless I'm holding her in what seems the most precarious pose to reach the dangly pull for the attic stairs...I guess she trusts me not to drop her, though I'm not sure I trust me not to drop her when she's wiggling all around batting at the pull.
