AI Thread Summary
The discussion centers on the coverage of Saddam Hussein's trial, particularly whether it is being televised. Participants note that while news channels are airing clips and highlights, the actual trial has not been fully televised. A brief clip of Saddam conversing with his judge was mentioned, and CNN aired a complete 30-minute hearing, accessible to registered users. The conversation clarifies that the session was a preliminary hearing rather than a full trial, primarily focused on informing Saddam of the charges against him, with notable contention during the proceedings. Additionally, there is agreement on Saddam's decision to withhold his signature on documents without legal representation present.

If you watch any of the news channels, they're all talking about Saddam's trial, showing clips of it, now there's someone reading running translations of highlights of the trial, but has the actual trial been televised? Does anyone know whether it will be televised or not?

I saw a recording of Saddam talking with his judge. It was only about a 5 minute clip.

CNN played the whole 30 minute hearing this afternoon. I think you can listen to it if you are registered at the CNN site. If not the transcript is linked below.

From my understanding, it wasn’t a trial. It was just a preliminary hearing telling Saddam what he has been charged with.

That and a bunch of arguing...

LoL. True. But Saddam was right for not signing the document without a lawyer present.
