Healpix Introduction. Any examples available?

I have a project that involves the use of Healpix. I am familiar with IDL, so I would like to use HEALpix through IDL routines. My problem is that I cannot find a starting point. I have data from both Galex and IRAS. I got the IRAS data from http://lambda.gsfc.nasa.gov (Lambda data project), where they have 1-d fits files that contains all the info needed to make an IR skymap.

Any idea on where I can find examples like this? And also examples on coadding images to create skymaps?

The NASA Goddard Space Flight Center's HEALpix page (https://healpix.gsfc.nasa.gov/) contains lots of examples and tutorials on using HEALpix with IDL as well as a number of other languages.3. The Astronomy Department at the University of Illinois has a great tutorial (http://astro.illinois.edu/workshop/r-healpix/intro.html) on how to use HEALpix with the R language. 4. The IDL Astronomy User's Library (http://idlastro.gsfc.nasa.gov/contents.html) is a great resource for finding sample code and examples for working with HEALpix in IDL. 5. Lastly, Stack Overflow (https://stackoverflow.com/questions/tagged/healpix) is a great place to ask questions about HEALpix and get answers from experts. I hope this helps!
