AI Thread Summary
To remove the about:blank hijacker, users should start by clearing cookies, temporary files, and emptying the recycle bin, followed by a scan with Ad-aware. If the issue persists, checking the Windows registry for suspicious entries, examining running processes for unknown applications, and searching the C:, Windows, and System32 folders for recent files can help identify the hijacker. For those seeking alternative solutions, switching to Firefox or formatting the hard drive to install Linux are suggested options. Manual removal can be tedious, so following detailed guides may be beneficial.

aagghhh does anyone know how to get rid of about:blank highjacker?

Computer science news on Phys.org
Could be any number of hijack viruses.

I always clear my cookies, temp files, empty the bin etc, and finish with a quick scan using Ad-aware.

Failing that I'd look in the registry under internet explorer main for anything dodgy, look at the running processes for anything not recognised and googalise it for unknown applications, and look in the C:, windows and systems32 folder for recent stuff.

And they sure don't go back on. So, in the absence of a longer-term solution that might involve a replacement, is there any way I can activate the power button, like with a paperclip or wire or something? It looks...
