The discussion centers on attracting intellectually inclined men, particularly those with a scientific background, while navigating a superficial social scene in NYC. The original poster expresses a preference for "smart and somewhat dorky" men over the typical alpha male types they encounter. Suggestions include engaging in academic or scientific activities, such as attending seminars at local universities or the New York Academy of Sciences, which are often free and provide opportunities to meet like-minded individuals. Participants emphasize that intelligent people can be found in various settings, such as libraries and coffeehouses, and that broadening social circles is essential. The conversation also touches on the importance of timing in social interactions, suggesting that the after-work crowd in bars may be more suitable for meeting intellectual types. Overall, the thread highlights the need for proactive engagement in environments that align with the desired interests.

The New York Academy of Sciences often has public seminars in the evenings. You could start attending those.

Tell them that if you find a guy, they will stop having to listen to you complain about not finding one.
