AI Thread Summary
Editing a post to include a quote from another post can be challenging due to limitations in the editing interface. Users often resort to workarounds, such as duplicating tabs or using a separate window to copy and paste quotes. Another method involves using a simple text editor to format quotes with tags before transferring them into the edited post. While these methods can be tedious, they provide effective solutions for incorporating quotes. Ultimately, users are seeking a more streamlined feature within the platform's interface for quoting.

I frequently use the specific PF feature to "quote" or "reply" to text when responding to a post. Sometimes, when I am editing my responding post, I would like to include a new quote from a different post. The edit interface does not seem to let me do that. I do have a work-around that works sometimes, but I would much prefer using some method that is part of the PF available interface functionality.

I usually duplicate the tab or open another window, reply there with the new quote and cut and paste it into the former. This also works from one thread to another. Sometimes I want to make a funny remark without derailing the thread, then I cut and paste it into one of the entertainment threads.

  • Click "reply", copy the code from the box to make a new post, edit the post and put it there
  • Alternatively, write the quote tag and copy the text manually

The same as fresh_42 and mfb say. You can also use a simple text editor like NotePad and add the quotation tags, copy and paste the desired quotations into the tags, label the tagged quotes according to who wrote them; and then copy and paste what you want where you want into your edited post. The simple, tedious way, but it works.

I want to thank those members who interacted with me a couple of years ago in two Optics Forum threads. They were @Drakkith, @hutchphd, @Gleb1964, and @KAHR-Alpha. I had something I wanted the scientific community to know and slipped a new idea in against the rules. Thank you also to @berkeman for suggesting paths to meet with academia. Anyway, I finally got a paper on the same matter as discussed in those forum threads, the fat lens model, got it peer-reviewed, and IJRAP...
This came up in my job today (UXP). Never thought to raise it here on PF till now. Hyperlinks really should be underlined at all times. PF only underlines them when they are rolled over. Colour alone (especially dark blue/purple) makes it difficult to spot a hyperlink in a large block of text (or even a small one). Not everyone can see perfectly. Even if they don't suffer from colour deficiency, not everyone has the visual acuity to distinguish two very close shades of text. Hover actions...
About 20 years ago, in my mid-30s (and with a BA in economics and a master's in business), I started taking night classes in physics hoping to eventually earn the science degree I'd always wanted but never pursued. I found physics forums and used it to ask questions I was unable to get answered from my textbooks or class lectures. Unfortunately, work and life got in the way and I never got further the freshman courses. Well, here it is 20 years later. I'm in my mid-50s now, and in a...
