AI Thread Summary
IBM utilizes advanced techniques to manipulate atoms for data storage, employing specific tools that enable precise movement of atomic structures. The wave-like lines observed in the video represent quantum effects associated with the atoms' behavior. The background material's atoms are not visible due to their size and the limitations of the imaging technology used. Atoms play a crucial role in data storage by allowing for the development of smaller, more efficient storage devices through atomic-scale manipulation. Exploring the series further reveals additional insights into these groundbreaking technologies.

I have a number of questions about the above video:
  1. What are they using to move the atoms?
  2. What are the wave-like lines around the shape/atoms?
  3. Why can't we see the atoms of the material that the video was filmed on (i.e. the background)?
Side question - What do atoms have to do with data storage and how can this be utilized?
