Does anybody have any ideas for a neat acoustics project for an advanced undergraduate acoustics course? I'd like to do something that actually accomplishes something worthwhile. Are there any current efforts in acoustics to which I might contribute or problems I might solve that would have some real meaning?

Here are eight new “apps” that use acoustics in novel ways. May I suggest you read the descriptions of all eight to learn what really innovative, interesting, and useful new ideas these represent? Hopefully, they will show examples of what others are doing, and give you some stimulus to design an experiment of your own.
