International Research Opportunities

AI Thread Summary
There is a notable interest in undergraduate research opportunities in Europe, particularly in Scotland and France, for students majoring in Math, Physics, and Astronomy. The discussion highlights a perceived scarcity of such programs compared to the US. Recommendations include exploring Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) type programs, with a specific mention of the RISE program in Germany as a valuable resource. Additionally, advice is sought on effectively reaching out to international universities and professors to inquire about potential research positions.

Hello,

I'd really like to join some research in Europe, preferably Scotland or France, next summer. I'll be heading into my third year as a Math/Phys. & Astro double major. It seems like there much fewer undergrad research opportunities abroad than there are in the US.

Are there any good REU type programs in Europe that someone could point me to, or any advice about reaching out to international universities/professors about doing research at their institutions?

I just finished group theory (today actually), and it was my least favorite class in all of university so far. It doesn't interest me, and I am also very bad at it compared to other math courses I have done. The other courses I have done are calculus I-III, ODEs, Linear Algebra, and Prob/Stats. Is it a...
