First of all, I am sure that The Number 23 was released long ago because I know that I have seen it before in math classes. But beyond that, I do understand this phenomenon: 23 is ten greater than 13, and we have ten fingers, so clearly 23 is a dangerous number.

Would this be Triskaididekaphobia?

Peru was still suffering the ills of a recent civil war and I knew it was dicey, but the money was too good to pass up. It was a long trip to Lima; about 14 hours of airtime...
