Is a Masters in Theoretical Particle Physics Worth Pursuing Without a PhD?

AI Thread Summary
An electronics engineering student from India is seeking guidance on pursuing a master's degree in theoretical physics, specifically in particle physics, at a reputable university abroad. The student inquires about available options and the significance of their engineering GPA for admission into physics master's programs. A response highlights the importance of considering career prospects, noting that job opportunities in theoretical particle physics are limited without a PhD, as many PhD holders are also competing for the same positions.

A question: what do you intend to do with a Masters in theoretical particle physics? The probability of you actually working in that area is extremely small without a PhD, especially in light of the fact that there are many theoretical particle physicists with PhDs also looking and competing for the same jobs.

Hey, I am Andreas from Germany. I am currently 35 years old and I want to relearn math and physics. This is not one of these regular questions when it comes to this matter. So... I am very realistic about it. I know that there are severe contraints when it comes to selfstudy compared to a regular school and/or university (structure, peers, teachers, learning groups, tests, access to papers and so on) . I will never get a job in this field and I will never be taken serious by "real"...
