AI Thread Summary
The discussion centers on the relationship between women's rights and crime rates, with participants questioning the validity of certain statistics. One contributor references a link to a National Center for Policy Analysis report, affirming its accuracy. There is skepticism about how to measure "women's rights," suggesting that fluctuations in search volume for related terms may correlate with seasonal trends, particularly during summer when school is out. Another point raised is the increasing involvement of women in drug use, implying that this trend could lead to a rise in female crime rates. The conversation hints at a potential shift in gender dynamics within criminal activity, suggesting that women may become more prominent in this area over time.

How do you quantify "womens rights"?

Hmm, I guess that the search volume for womens rights and crime rates decreases in the middle of the year because it's summer and kids aren't searching for it for school.

I don't see how search volumes for the terms indicates that female crime rates are up however.

I think it is obvious, more women are using drugs, why do think drugs are a male thing?
I think it is only a matter of time before the females are dominant in crime

Similar to the 2024 thread, here I start the 2025 thread. As always it is getting increasingly difficult to predict, so I will make a list based on other article predictions. You can also leave your prediction here. Here are the predictions of 2024 that did not make it: Peter Shor, David Deutsch and all the rest of the quantum computing community (various sources) Pablo Jarrillo Herrero, Allan McDonald and Rafi Bistritzer for magic angle in twisted graphene (various sources) Christoph...
Thread 'My experience as a hostage'
I believe it was the summer of 2001 that I made a trip to Peru for my work. I was a private contractor doing automation engineering and programming for various companies, including Frito Lay. Frito had purchased a snack food plant near Lima, Peru, and sent me down to oversee the upgrades to the systems and the startup. Peru was still suffering the ills of a recent civil war and I knew it was dicey, but the money was too good to pass up. It was a long trip to Lima; about 14 hours of airtime...
