AI Thread Summary
Changing a schedule to accommodate work while taking classes is a significant consideration. The discussion centers around enrolling in two junior-level math courses—Abstract Algebra and Differential Equations—and one senior-level course, Advanced Linear Algebra, back to back. There is a concern about the workload and whether this is a wise decision, despite feeling prepared and planning to bring snacks for energy. Additionally, the relationship between the courses is highlighted, particularly the potential prerequisite nature of Advanced Linear Algebra for Abstract Algebra, which may depend on the specific curriculum of the Advanced Linear Algebra course.

Ok, I plan on changing my schedule so that I can get some work time in.

I'm thinking of taking 2 Junior level and 1 Senior level math classes back to back.

Abstract Algebra, Differential Equations, and Advanced Linear Algebra.

Anyone have personal experience? I'm in pretty good shape and I would definitely bring a snack but unwise nonetheless?

I would imagine advanced linear algebra is a prerequisite for abstract algebra. This depends on what they cover in advanced linear algebra.

I’ve been looking through the curricula of several European theoretical/mathematical physics MSc programs (ETH, Oxford, Cambridge, LMU, ENS Paris, etc), and I’m struck by how little emphasis they place on advanced fundamental courses. Nearly everything seems to be research-adjacent: string theory, quantum field theory, quantum optics, cosmology, soft matter physics, black hole radiation, etc. What I don’t see are the kinds of “second-pass fundamentals” I was hoping for, things like...
TL;DR Summary: I want to do a PhD in applied math but I hate group theory, is this a big problem? Hello, I am a second-year math and physics double major with a minor in data science. I just finished group theory (today actually), and it was my least favorite class in all of university so far. It doesn't interest me, and I am also very bad at it compared to other math courses I have done. The other courses I have done are calculus I-III, ODEs, Linear Algebra, and Prob/Stats. Is it a...
