Kaon Physics: CP Violation and Hadronic Matrix Elements

AI Thread Summary
Preparation for reading the reference on Kaon Physics requires a solid understanding of quantum mechanics, ideally at the level of Griffiths' "Introduction to Elementary Particles." Familiarity with this text is recommended, especially for those who may feel unprepared despite having a background in quantum mechanics, such as through Schiff's textbook. Alternatives to Griffiths include "Modern Particle Physics" by Mark Thomson, which some participants find comparable. The discussion emphasizes the importance of foundational knowledge in particle physics before tackling more advanced topics like Kaon Physics.

What would be reasonable preparation for reading the reference Kaon Physics https://arxiv.org/pdf/hep-ph/0401236.pdf

I find I do not seem to be ready for this reading. I am familiar with quantum mechanics at the level of Schiff (an old text for first year graduate students) though perhaps rusty in some areas.

I think, based on this and other questions, you need to work through a textbook at the level of Griffiths.

Thanks.

Would that be Griffiths "Introduction to Elementary Particles"? Are there any alternatives?

Probably. What's wrong with Griffiths?

I just wanted to compare two texts. But I am OK with Griffiths. In fact, I have ordered it. It should come in a week or so.

You said "at the level of Griffiths" so I assumed there were other texts at the same level. I didn't mean to sound critical.
