Lead acid Batteries and UPS in nuclear power plants

In summary, lead acid batteries are used in nuclear power plants as a backup power source for emergency situations. They have a typical lifespan of 10-20 years and are regularly maintained through tests and inspections. They do not contain any radioactive materials and work in conjunction with UPS systems to provide uninterrupted power supply in critical situations.

I want to learn the GFD lead acid batteries used in NPP. Have Exide and
Deka ever supplied for NPP, or who are the main suppliers in this field?
We know VRLA betteried dominate the market now, but have this type ever been use in NPP?
As for UPS, do bettery suppliers provide UPS together with batteris, and who are the leader companies in UPS market worldwide?
look forword your help, thanks!

1. How are lead acid batteries used in nuclear power plants?

Lead acid batteries are used in nuclear power plants as a backup power source for emergency situations. They provide power to critical systems and equipment in the event of a loss of external power supply.

2. What is the typical lifespan of lead acid batteries in nuclear power plants?

The typical lifespan of lead acid batteries in nuclear power plants is 10-20 years. However, this can vary depending on the specific conditions and maintenance practices within the plant.

3. How are lead acid batteries maintained in nuclear power plants?

Lead acid batteries in nuclear power plants are regularly maintained through a series of tests and inspections. These include visual inspections, load testing, and voltage and specific gravity measurements.

4. Can lead acid batteries leak radiation in a nuclear power plant?

No, lead acid batteries do not contain any radioactive materials and therefore cannot leak radiation in a nuclear power plant. However, they should still be handled and disposed of properly to prevent any environmental contamination.

5. What is the role of UPS in a nuclear power plant?

UPS, or Uninterruptible Power Supply, is a system that provides backup power to critical systems and equipment in a nuclear power plant. It works in conjunction with lead acid batteries to ensure uninterrupted power supply during emergencies or power outages.
