The discussion focuses on the functional used for variations in calculus of variations, specifically addressing the notation for variations, which is typically represented by the lower case Greek delta, δ. Participants note that the stylized font used in the forum may appear unusual but remains clear in its intent. A helpful resource for identifying mathematical symbols, Detexify, is also recommended for those seeking clarification on notation.

The functional one used for variations in calculus of variations.
Had a google, can't seem to find.
A variation is usually denoted with the lower case Greek delta, δ. This particular font used at PF is somewhat stylized, and looks a bit odd, but I doubt that anyone will misunderstand what is intended.
