AI Thread Summary
A magnetic portal opens approximately every eight minutes, creating a connection between Earth and the sun, allowing high-energy particles to flow through. This phenomenon challenges previous understandings of the Earth-sun interaction and climate. Scientists are investigating the reasons behind the regular formation of these portals and the behavior of magnetic fields within them. The discovery prompts a reevaluation of existing knowledge in the field, suggesting that many concepts may need to be reconsidered. The timing of the portal openings coincides with the eight-minute duration it takes for sunlight to reach Earth, raising intriguing questions about the nature of these connections.

During the time it takes you to read this article, something will happen high overhead that until recently many scientists didn't believe in. A magnetic portal will open, linking Earth to the sun 93 million miles away. Tons of high-energy particles may flow through the opening before it closes again, around the time you reach the end of the page.

And we thought we knew it all? How the Earth sun interaction and climate worked.

There are many unanswered questions: Why do the portals form every 8 minutes? How do magnetic fields inside the cylinder twist and coil? "We're doing some heavy thinking about this at the Workshop," says Sibeck.

Better start thinking from scratch about a lot more things.

Now that's a funny coincidence that it's every 8 minutes. It takes about 8 minutes for light to travel from sun to earth.

Hello, I’m currently writing a series of essays on Pangaea, continental drift, and Earth’s geological cycles. While working on my research, I’ve come across some inconsistencies in the existing theories — for example, why the main pressure seems to have been concentrated in the northern polar regions. So I’m curious: is there any data or evidence suggesting that an external cosmic body (an asteroid, comet, or another massive object) could have influenced Earth’s geology in the distant...
Thread 'The Secrets of Prof. Verschure's Rosetta Stones'
(Edit: since the thread title was changed, this first sentence is too cryptic: the original title referred to a Tool song....) Besides being a favorite song by a favorite band, the thread title is a straightforward play on words. This summer, as a present to myself for being promoted, I purchased a collection of thin sections that I believe comprise the research materials of Prof. Rob Verschure, who at the time was faculty in the Geological Institute in Amsterdam. What changed this...
