hello !

I was thinking about some ideas of new ways to accelerate spacecraft s in space, but for that it would be helpful to know which methods are currently in use. I'm talking about the acceleration in general, so both at a place in space influenced more by gravity ( like Earth orbit ) and a place without that much of a gravity influence ( if that makes a difference in how to accelerate)

Astronomy news on Phys.org
Some that come immediately to mind are:
Traditional rocket propulsion with gas
Rocket propulsion with ion propulsion (see http://www.nasa.gov/centers/glenn/about/fs21grc.html )
"Sails" to catch solar wind. (see http://www.nasa.gov/centers/marshal...sting-of-revolutionary-e-sail-technology.html )
Gravity assist "sling shot" around a fast moving planet. (see https://solarsystem.nasa.gov/basics/grav/primer.php )

BINGO! Here is a good reference: https://www.nasa.gov/pdf/501329main_TA02-InSpaceProp-DRAFT-Nov2010-A.pdf
