Morehead State -- Space Systems Engineering MS

AI Thread Summary
The discussion centers on a newly accepted student inquiring about a rigorous program related to space manufacturing in Kentucky. Concerns are raised about the school's reputation and the degree's applicability in engineering roles. Responses indicate that graduates can work in engineering, primarily in systems engineering or management rather than direct design or manufacturing. The program is described as having a hybrid curriculum that balances operations and design, with impressive facilities noted. The student expresses intent to conduct further research into the program and similar options, such as those at Johns Hopkins.

Hi, I was just accepted to this program and was wondering if anyone has had any experience with it. It seems quite rigorous, but my main concern is that I know little of the school. The research looks quite interesting and I know that Kentucky is injecting large amounts of funding to the local space manufacturing industry, but would I be able to work in an actual engineering capacity with this degree, or is meant more for technicians?

Thanks.

If no one has experience with this program, perhaps someone has knowledge of the one at Johns Hopkins or the like?

You would definitely be able to work in engineering roles, though from my research it indicates more of a systems engineer/management role rather than design or manufacture if that makes sense. Though a ms in astronautical engineering should alsp be considered.

Yeah, it seems like a hybrid operations/design curriculum? but the facilities that they have seem pretty impressing. I think I'll do more research. Thanks for the reply.

TL;DR Summary: I want to do a PhD in applied math but I hate group theory, is this a big problem? Hello, I am a second-year math and physics double major with a minor in data science. I just finished group theory (today actually), and it was my least favorite class in all of university so far. It doesn't interest me, and I am also very bad at it compared to other math courses I have done. The other courses I have done are calculus I-III, ODEs, Linear Algebra, and Prob/Stats. Is it a...
