Don't forget the dress code...pocket protectors, tape for your glasses, and an inhaler.

I think I finally unbroke my computer from the last software I attempted installing (not sure yet, but found some stuff the uninstall didn't remove...and this was software provided by our IT people...I got talked into trying it first by the more technophobic faculty I work with ), so I'm not about to try upgrading my browser on the first day the version is released! Someone else can be the guinea pig on this one.

Wow. Here I am, Listening to They Might Be Giants, and I DON'T feel like a geek!

Party on you guys!

Unfortunately most of their servers crashed for most of the day.
There has supposedly been a big downloadspike for the new opera 9.50 and safari.

I downloaded it. Unfortunately, the mouse gestures add-on I use has not been updated, guess I got to look into that now...

Using my smart location bar, I found this really hilarious youtube video . I had bookmarked it few months ago, but then it got lost.

Michigan Coach Goes Crazy! Kevin Borseth Rant, Hilarious!

Really love the smart location bar!

Actually, the beta version has been out for a few months now, so it's safe to get. Besides it'd be better than IE no matter what. I HATE IE.

I pledged, but I just can't get into the http://www.Mozilla.com/Firefox . To be part of the world record, you have to download from the mozilla website alone. I think I have about 9 hours left to download.
The only reason why IE is so popular is because 90% of its users have not even heard of firefox. You can bet your last nickel that Microsoft engineers are poring over the firefox source code as we speak, for IE8.

I clicked on your link, arunbg, and yes, I got an error message about the page you are trying to connect to.

If you follow the link from the first post in this thread http://www.spreadfirefox.com/en-US/worldrecord/" it should work fine for you.

What does a download party entail? I mean.. how do you make such a thing into a party.. and why?

  • #17
North Korea didn't make a single download, they got to hate FF there.

I finally got the link to work, FF3 looks great btw!

You download and you party. simple.

Over 8.6 million downloads are claimed. I can make it to the Guinness book now, along with 8.6 million others :frown:

Interesting download statistic: South Korea - 44848 , North Korea - You guessed it, 0
Those poor people.

Ooh, and you have a new look too! Congrats on going gold!

Cool. I'll plan to upgrade Monday (I have to give a talk Friday and don't want to disrupt anything on my computer until that's done).

I got the upgrade this morning. I've never had any trouble upgrading Mozilla's products. Wish I could say that for Microsoft.

That's why I LOVE open source. While some stuff isn't the best (like OpenOffice) they are FREE and get the job done. I haven't bought software, pretty much ever, I just get open source versions.

Firefox 3 Vulnerability Found

Since Mozilla is still working on a fix, the researchers won't share details about the problem. Tipping Point ranked the severity of the vulnerability as high, but said that users would have to click on a link in an e-mail or visit a malicious Web page before being affected. The issue affects users of Firefox 3.0 as well as Firefox 2.0.

No, the reason is that Firefox is not compatible with applications that many people need to use in the business world. I cannot use Firefox, it's not compatible with my work systems or even my e-mail.

My web-browsing software doesn't have anything to do with my e-mail or any of my work systems including online banking for work. Firefox has some issues (although no more than Macs, I don't think) with MSN sites. I'm curious, Evo, what work-stuff a web-browser isn't compatible with because the first thing that sprang to mind was, "Is Evo thinking of Linux?" I'm probably missing something, here.

I think in her case, developers didn't check if their applications are compatible with Firefox, so that's developers mistake or the company is using very old software(developed before Firefox).

When I develop web applications, I mostly work with IE but also make sure they are working with Firefox. Sometimes, things that work in IE don't work in Firefox and vice-versa.

For personal use, I never got any spyware on my computer or saw any annoying ads since I started using Firefox.
I think Microsoft always wins when it comes to bugs and security flaws

Ha, yesterday MySpace did a major overhaul too. Think they may have been trying to ride on Mozilla's coattails ;)

My company uses a lot of custom proprietary applications that are developed to work with IE. Firefox is incompatible. There is also a glitch in Firefox that would turn one of my personal POP 3 e-mail services "invisible" when I would try to read mail in my inbox, I could see that I had an e-mail, but the page would be blank, no one ever figured that one out.

No rootx, major multi-billion dollar companies like the one I work for have made a deliberate decision to have things work with only one browser in order to standardize and reduce problems with having to troubleshoot. It's stupid to go to all of the extra trouble to try to make things compatible with multiple browsers. That's the real world.

Have you tried Thunderbird for your POP 3 email? Oh, and that glitch might be caused by the network, cause at the local community college the network settings change (limit) the usability of, in my experience, Hotmail, so it could easily be done with other services.

Firefox can not be loaded at work, so it's not a network issue.

No, the e-mail problem was on my older daughter's computer, she has firefox, and I was spending a few days at her place babysitting her kitten while she was out of town. I couldn't read my e-mail, except for yahoo.

That's weird. I haven't run into any issues with email being compatible with Firefox, even with the crummy email system we have at work here. I had some problems with it on Safari, but that's because they had decided not to support Macs for a while (I've been gradually getting them to come around).

This one simply doesn't work!
I thought developers are lazy but seems like they are just forcing all to use IE

More like a lot of developers are meth heads...Gotta be a few that are on tweak to stay up all night and code. Caffeine and loud music only work to a certain extent.

AS I suspected, I have no clue. I ought to have just kept it to myself.
