Physics and applied math journals

AI Thread Summary
For newcomers seeking information on physics and applied mathematics journals, understanding journal rankings, particularly impact factors, is essential. Impact factors reflect how often journals are cited relative to the number of papers they publish, indicating their prestige within the field. Prestigious journals include the Physical Review series and Nature, with the latter being a significant achievement for published articles. For those starting to read journal articles, Physics Today is recommended for its accessible content across various topics. Resources for finding journal impact factors include Science Gateway and In-Cites, which provide comprehensive rankings across disciplines.

I'm quite new. Can anyone give me a link or sense of physics and applied mathematics journals and their rankings. I tried the search function but it all seems scattered. Google too is not helping much. Thanks y'all.

I'm not sure what you mean by ranking. Do you mean impact factor?

In general, each field has it's particular journals that increase in prestige and this varies from field to field. Any of the Phys Revs are fairly prestigious. Getting an article published in Nature is considered a very high accomplishment.

If you're just interested in starting to read journal articles one place to start might be Physics Today - their articles tend to be interesting, cover a wide range of topics, and are often written so as to introduce the material to readers who may not have a background in that particular field.

Hey, I am Andreas from Germany. I am currently 35 years old and I want to relearn math and physics. This is not one of these regular questions when it comes to this matter. So... I am very realistic about it. I know that there are severe contraints when it comes to selfstudy compared to a regular school and/or university (structure, peers, teachers, learning groups, tests, access to papers and so on) . I will never get a job in this field and I will never be taken serious by "real"...
Yesterday, 9/5/2025, when I was surfing, I found an article The Schwarzschild solution contains three problems, which can be easily solved - Journal of King Saud University - Science ABUNDANCE ESTIMATION IN AN ARID ENVIRONMENT https://jksus.org/the-schwarzschild-solution-contains-three-problems-which-can-be-easily-solved/ that has the derivation of a line element as a corrected version of the Schwarzschild solution to Einstein’s field equation. This article's date received is 2022-11-15...
