Physics Experiment for high school physics relating to University physics research

Click For Summary
SUMMARY

The discussion focuses on creating a presentation for high school students that connects high-level physics research with practical experiments. Key suggestions include exploring coded apertures as an alternative imaging technique to traditional lenses and discussing the use of lasers and holography for obtaining three-dimensional tomographic information from biological samples. These topics not only engage students but also highlight advanced concepts in imaging technology.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of basic optics and imaging systems
  • Familiarity with coded aperture technology
  • Knowledge of laser physics and holography
  • Basic principles of tomographic imaging
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the principles of coded apertures and their applications in imaging
  • Explore the fundamentals of laser technology and its use in holography
  • Study tomographic imaging techniques and their relevance in biological research
  • Investigate engaging demonstration methods for high school presentations
USEFUL FOR

High school physics teachers, university students preparing presentations, and anyone interested in bridging advanced physics concepts with practical demonstrations for educational purposes.

Hi
I need to do a presentation at university; relating to high level physics research presented to final year high school students and it needs to include an experiment or demonstration

Any ideas ?
Experiments ?

I think a cool talk would be to talk about how most people just assume that lenses image systems and that's the only imaging technique there is. You could do some research on coded apertures, which can also produce images (though there's a reason why we use lenses for most imaging systems as opposed to coded apertures). Or you could talk about how lasers and holography can give 3D information (that is to say tomographic info) of cells/tissue/etc. Kids like lasers and pictures (I think adults do as well). :)
