Planetary Alignment (nothing to do with astrology)

AI Thread Summary
Planetary alignment, while not perfect, is possible and has occurred in the past, with notable alignments aiding outer planet exploration. The precision of alignment can vary, and the concept of "all planets aligning" is more about visual proximity than exactness. Users are encouraged to utilize planetarium programs or solar system simulators to explore historical and future alignments. Recommended free software includes Stellarium and Celestia, which allow users to visualize planetary positions over time. Overall, while perfect alignment is unlikely, significant alignments can and do happen.

*THIS IS AN ACTUAL QUESTION, NOT A WHAT IF SCENARIO*

I just wondered if it has ever happened or could ever happen that all of the planets align? I'm not saying there are any consequences thereof, just want to know if it's realistically possible, why/why not. Basically just because I think it would be cool.

Thanks!

Since there is no such thing as perfection in real life, you'd have to specify what precision you are looking for. There have been many good alignments, including a notable one 20 or 30 years ago that helped facilitate exploration of the outer planets.

One thing you might try is to get ahold of a planetarium program or solar system simulator and run it forwards or backwards in time to see what kind of alignments you get.

Interesting idea. Do you know of any commercially(i.e. free) that are available?

Stellarium would do.

TL;DR Summary: In 3 years, the Square Kilometre Array (SKA) telescope (or rather, a system of telescopes) should be put into operation. In case of failure to detect alien signals, it will further expand the radius of the so-called silence (or rather, radio silence) of the Universe. Is there any sense in this or is blissful ignorance better? In 3 years, the Square Kilometre Array (SKA) telescope (or rather, a system of telescopes) should be put into operation. Thread 'Could gamma-ray bursts have an intragalactic origin?'
This is indirectly evidenced by a map of the distribution of gamma-ray bursts in the night sky, made in the form of an elongated globe. And also the weakening of gamma radiation by the disk and the center of the Milky Way, which leads to anisotropy in the possibilities of observing gamma-ray bursts. My line of reasoning is as follows: 1. Gamma radiation should be absorbed to some extent by dust and other components of the interstellar medium. As a result, with an extragalactic origin, fewer...
