AI Thread Summary
Undergraduate students seeking research opportunities outside their home institution can pursue this option if a professor at another school is willing to accept them. However, several logistical challenges must be addressed, including insurance coverage during research activities, liability issues, and the potential for obtaining research credit from their home institution. Students are encouraged to explore these aspects thoroughly to ensure a smooth experience while gaining valuable research exposure.

i've been looking at biology research for undergrads at the school i go to - and i don't find the topics compelling. is it possible to do undergrad research at another school than the one in which you take classes? i want to get a taste of research while i am an undergrad so that i have an inkling of what it's like for a grad student - but i don't want to change schools just to do research on a topic that interests me. any ideas? thanks :)

ultimately, if the other professor is willing to take you, then you can do research under the,.

but there are probably plenty of logistical problems.
ie:
how you are insured work at the other school? what happens when something goes wrong?
can you get research credit somewhere else? etc.

I’ve been looking through the curricula of several European theoretical/mathematical physics MSc programs (ETH, Oxford, Cambridge, LMU, ENS Paris, etc), and I’m struck by how little emphasis they place on advanced fundamental courses. Nearly everything seems to be research-adjacent: string theory, quantum field theory, quantum optics, cosmology, soft matter physics, black hole radiation, etc. What I don’t see are the kinds of “second-pass fundamentals” I was hoping for, things like...
TL;DR Summary: I want to do a PhD in applied math but I hate group theory, is this a big problem? Hello, I am a second-year math and physics double major with a minor in data science. I just finished group theory (today actually), and it was my least favorite class in all of university so far. It doesn't interest me, and I am also very bad at it compared to other math courses I have done. The other courses I have done are calculus I-III, ODEs, Linear Algebra, and Prob/Stats. Is it a...
