Testing Preparing for Cambridge STEP: Advice for Irish Students

AI Thread Summary
The discussion centers on an Irish secondary school student preparing to apply for Mathematics or Mathematics and Physics at Cambridge University, specifically expressing concern about the STEP exam required for admission. The student feels confident in their potential but is apprehensive that the Irish syllabus may not provide sufficient mathematical foundation for the exam. They seek recommendations for additional resources, such as books and courses, to ensure adequate preparation for the STEP exam. I'm probably going to apply to Mathematics, or maybe Mathematics and Physics, in Cambridge this October.

I'm not asking for your opinions on Cambridge or the course or anything, I just have to ask this.

I am an Irish Secondary school student, and I am worried about the STEP exam required to gain entry to this course. I believe I have the potential to do well in the exam, but I am more fundamentally worried that the Irish syllabus I am following will not supply me with enough mathematics to complete the exam to my full potential.

Anyway, I was wondering what else I should do to be adequately prepared for the exam, what books, courses, whatever, would be helpful to me for this..

Thanks in advance.

Hey, I am Andreas from Germany. I am currently 35 years old and I want to relearn math and physics. This is not one of these regular questions when it comes to this matter. So... I am very realistic about it. I know that there are severe contraints when it comes to selfstudy compared to a regular school and/or university (structure, peers, teachers, learning groups, tests, access to papers and so on) . I will never get a job in this field and I will never be taken serious by "real"...
