Hello,

I would like to know if it is possible to rearrange the components of the double slit experiment so that the particle detectors are placed behind the detection screen? The screen would have to have holes to allow the particles to pass to the detectors when they are activated. Those holes would have to be positioned so the fringe lines do not hit them when the detectors are inactive. So all of the angles and positions would have to be precise. Since its difficult to explain I made a video.

Thanks.

For an interference pattern to appear, there must be a possibility for particles coming out of either slit to hit a given point on the screen. Therefore, contrary to what is shown in the video, the fact that a particle hits a particular detector behind the screen gives no information about which slit it went through.

Insights auto threads is broken atm, so I'm manually creating these for new Insight articles. If we release an electron around a positively charged sphere, the initial state of electron is a linear combination of Hydrogen-like states. According to quantum mechanics, evolution of time would not change this initial state because the potential is time independent. However, classically we expect the electron to collide with the sphere. So, it seems that the quantum and classics predict different behaviours!
