AI Thread Summary
In Silicon Valley, there are several mathematics competitions specifically for high school students, with major events hosted by institutions like San Jose, Stanford, and Berkeley. Participants are encouraged to engage with local math circles and explore their websites for additional competition opportunities. While some competitions like SMT and BMT are noted, there is a suggestion to consider setting up a training program for prestigious contests such as the USAMO or IMO to enhance team preparation. Active participation and effort in researching available competitions are emphasized for success.

So I live in silicon valley and I was wondering what mathematics competitions are there? The ones that are nearby and that are only for high school students. I need to have at least 4 nearby competitions for my math club because I want the members participating a lot.

Go to a math circle or two and talk to them, or check their web sites. The major ones in Silicon Valley are San Jose, Stanford, and Berkeley. I've already pointed you at good sources for competition information. Have you actually looked at any of them? What have you found?

You are not going to get anywhere in this unless you are willing to put in some effort.

Yes I looked into SMT and BMT but those are pretty much the only ones that I can find.

I don't know if you are just looking at purely team based ones in the local area but why not just set up a training program for your team for the USAMO/IMO, unless you already have.

Hey, I am Andreas from Germany. I am currently 35 years old and I want to relearn math and physics. This is not one of these regular questions when it comes to this matter. So... I am very realistic about it. I know that there are severe contraints when it comes to selfstudy compared to a regular school and/or university (structure, peers, teachers, learning groups, tests, access to papers and so on) . I will never get a job in this field and I will never be taken serious by "real"...
