Will a solar calculator's PV cell charge the battery through two diodes?

In summary, the conversation discusses the use of diodes in a solar calculator to prevent current from flowing back into the cell from the battery and protect the cell. It is mentioned that the diodes work in reverse and radiate energy when a greater potential is applied.

I have a solar calculator and it also has a battery what I want to know if this solar cell would charge the battery. The positive from solar cell is connected to battery, but the negative from solar cell seems to pass thru two diodes before connecting to battery.

hi John

the diodes are probably there to stop current from flowing back into the cell from the battery
purpose -- to protect the cell

Hello John, I am surprised there are 2 ( parallel or series?) - but yes this is to keep the PV cell from discharging the battery. PV Cells essentally work in reverse - they radiate energy when a potential is applied greater then the potential they are creating.

What is a solar calculator?

A solar calculator is a device that uses solar cells to convert sunlight into electrical energy, which is then used to power the calculator. It is an environmentally friendly alternative to traditional calculators that require batteries.

How does a solar calculator work?

A solar calculator works by capturing sunlight through its solar cells, which are made of silicon. The solar cells convert the sunlight into electrical energy, which is then used to power the calculator. The more sunlight that hits the solar cells, the more energy is produced.

What are the benefits of using a solar calculator?

Using a solar calculator has several benefits, including being environmentally friendly, as it does not require batteries that can harm the environment. Solar calculators also save money in the long run, as they do not require replacement batteries. They also work well in outdoor settings, as they can be powered by natural sunlight.

Do solar calculators work in low light conditions?

Solar calculators are designed to work best in natural sunlight. However, they can still function in low light conditions, although they may not be as efficient. Some solar calculators also have a backup battery to ensure they can still be used in low light situations.

Are solar calculators more expensive than traditional calculators?

Solar calculators may have a higher initial cost compared to traditional calculators. However, they do not require replacement batteries, which can save money in the long run. Additionally, they are more environmentally friendly, making them a worthwhile investment.
