AI Thread Summary
Users are seeking a way to stop automatic thread subscriptions when posting, as it leads to cluttered inboxes with notification emails. The solution involves adjusting settings in the User Control Panel under Edit Options, where users can set the default thread subscription mode to "Do not subscribe." Alternatively, users can choose to subscribe without receiving email notifications by modifying the same settings. This approach allows users to monitor threads of interest without being overwhelmed by email alerts. Implementing these changes can significantly enhance the user experience on the forum.

Is there any way to make the default when posting in a thread not to subscribe? My email inbox gets clogged with all these new post notifications because I always forget to uncheck the box for subscribing. I check back here every day, I don't need the thread subscriptions to find out whether there's new posts or not.

Thanks.

Try this:

User CP > Edit Options > Default Thread Subscription Mode (In Messaging & Notification).

Change mode to "Do not subscribe"

Or you can still subscribe but turn off the e-mail notification. Also in the edit options page.

I use this. It's much less annoying. This way, you can still keep track of interesting threads, but PF won't bug you with emails.

Thanks Guys!

I want to thank those members who interacted with me a couple of years ago in two Optics Forum threads. They were @Drakkith, @hutchphd, @Gleb1964, and @KAHR-Alpha. I had something I wanted the scientific community to know and slipped a new idea in against the rules. Thank you also to @berkeman for suggesting paths to meet with academia. Anyway, I finally got a paper on the same matter as discussed in those forum threads, the fat lens model, got it peer-reviewed, and IJRAP...
About 20 years ago, in my mid-30s (and with a BA in economics and a master's in business), I started taking night classes in physics hoping to eventually earn the science degree I'd always wanted but never pursued. I found physics forums and used it to ask questions I was unable to get answered from my textbooks or class lectures. Unfortunately, work and life got in the way and I never got further the freshman courses. Well, here it is 20 years later. I'm in my mid-50s now, and in a...
