AI Thread Summary
During a field trip to the local police station, Larry's class viewed a bulletin board featuring the 10 most wanted criminals. A student inquired if one of the photos was indeed of a wanted individual, to which a policeman confirmed it was. Larry humorously questioned why the police didn't apprehend the suspect when they took the photo. This sparked a nostalgic reflection on childhood curiosity, recalling a similar humorous debate about the Unknown Soldier and the perceived absurdity of not knowing his name before burial. The discussion highlights the innocence and humor in children's perspectives on serious topics like crime and memorials.

Larry's class were on a field trip to their local police station where they saw
pictures tacked to a bulletin board of the 10 most wanted criminals.

One of the youngsters pointed to a picture and asked if it
really was the photo of a wanted person.

'Yes,' said the policeman. 'The detectives want very badly to capture him.

Larry asked,
"Why didn't you keep him when you took his picture ? "

I remember, as a kid, arguing about The Unknown Soldier, the national memorial. "Hey People! Why didn't you just find out this fellow's name before you buried him? Ya look pretty darn silly now, don't ya?"

Thread 'My experience as a hostage'
I believe it was the summer of 2001 that I made a trip to Peru for my work. I was a private contractor doing automation engineering and programming for various companies, including Frito Lay. Frito had purchased a snack food plant near Lima, Peru, and sent me down to oversee the upgrades to the systems and the startup. Peru was still suffering the ills of a recent civil war and I knew it was dicey, but the money was too good to pass up. It was a long trip to Lima; about 14 hours of airtime...
